My black cartridge was low where it was printing streaks so I replaced it with a brand new black cartridge (genuine) . It initially printed all color and I had no issues. Then all of a sudden I can't print anything in black - it prints the paper blank. If there are colors, that will print but anything black won't. I have tried everything that was stated in the support forums -
1. Using the 'HP Print & Scan Doctor' app - did the trouble shooting
2. Printed 'print alignment' sheet - nothing in black was printed, just the rest such as blue sections and the red
3. Cleaned the head and printed the page - all color except black printed
4. Rebooted, disconnected from the power source, updated drivers
I'm at a lost at this point as to what the cause is or how to resolve.
Appreciate any assistance

Hi @avrv2925,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 printer. When you change the black cartridge and the black ink doesn't print while color does, there could be several reasons for this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Check the Black Cartridge: Make sure you've installed the new black cartridge correctly. Ensure that it's securely seated in its designated slot and that you've removed any protective tape or packaging that might be covering the cartridge's print head.
- Printer Alignment: Some printers require alignment after cartridge replacement. Check your printer's user manual for instructions on how to align the print heads. It may involve printing an alignment page and following the on-screen prompts.
- Printer Cleaning: Your printer may have a cleaning or maintenance function. Use the printer's menu or control panel to access the cleaning option and follow the prompts to clean the print heads.
- Ink Levels: Check the ink levels for the black cartridge in your printer's software or control panel. If the ink level is low or empty, it might not print correctly. Replace the cartridge if necessary.
- Nozzle Check: Perform a nozzle check or print head test. This will help identify any clogs or issues with the black ink nozzles. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a nozzle check.
- Driver Update: Ensure that your printer driver is up to date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause printing issues. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest driver for your printer model.
- Paper Quality: Make sure you're using the correct type and size of paper that's compatible with your printer. Incorrect paper settings can affect print quality.
- Clean the Printhead Manually: If none of the above steps work, you may need to clean the printhead manually. This involves removing the black cartridge and using a lint-free cloth or a special printhead cleaning solution (available from HP) to gently clean the printhead.
Remember that troubleshooting printer issues can sometimes be a bit complex, and it may take a combination of these steps to resolve the problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
