Clean the Printhead

Cleaning the printhead can resolve many print quality issues, including missing colors.

• Load plain white paper into the tray.
• Open the HP Smart app or use the printer's control panel to navigate to the maintenance settings.
• Select the option to clean the printhead. A Cleaning printhead message will display, and a test page will print.
• Examine the print quality on the test page. Repeat the cleaning process a few times if necessary.

Check Ink Levels and Replace Cartridges

Ensure that the ink cartridges have sufficient ink and are properly installed.

• Check the ink levels using the printer control panel or HP Smart app.
• Replace any low or empty cartridges with genuine HP cartridges.
• Avoid using non-HP or refilled cartridges as their quality and reliability are not guaranteed by HP.

Print a Diagnostic Page

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page to identify any issues with ink flow or printhead alignment.

• Load plain white paper into the tray.
• Open the dashboard from the printer control panel, swipe or navigate to setup, then select the option to print a quality diagnostic report.
• Evaluate the diagnostic page for any missing colors or streaks.

Align the Printhead

Aligning the printhead can resolve issues with test patterns.

• Use the HP Smart app or the printer control panel to navigate to Tools.
• Select Align Printer or Align Printheads. Follow the instructions to complete the alignment.

Update Printer Firmware
