Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8025 printer that won't print in color even though I just put brand new cartridges, well, previously unopened cartridges into the printer a couple weeks ago.  The cartridges may have been sent to me a few months ago because I have been with instant ink.  Honestly, I don't know how long I have had the cartridges.  All I know is that the printer won't print in full color like it used to.  Yes, it is a few years old.  I really wanted to talk to a human being over the phone to try to troubleshoot this problem, but apparently HP doesn't want to talk to their customers in real life and the only way to get anything done is to come to an online forum to complain about it.  I am seriously considering switching completely away from HP products because I cannot talk to a representative of their company.  Perhaps they are too embarrassed to admit that their products can be defective.

Hi @mar12strings ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 printer. It can indeed be frustrating when technical issues arise, especially when you're unable to get immediate assistance from the manufacturer. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the issue with your printer not printing in color:

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer settings on your computer haven't been changed to print in grayscale or black and white only.
  • Go to the printer properties on your computer and verify that color printing is enabled.

Clean Print Heads:

  • Sometimes, print heads can get clogged, leading to issues with color printing. Many printers have a built-in utility for cleaning print heads. You can usually find this option in the printer settings or maintenance menu.
  • Refer to your printer's user manual for specific instructions on how to clean the print heads.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure that the color cartridges are properly installed in the printer. Ensure that you remove any protective tape or packaging from the cartridges before installing them.
  • Open the printer cover and check to see if the cartridges are seated correctly and securely.

Verify Cartridge Expiry:

  • Cartridges do have an expiration date, and using expired cartridges can sometimes lead to printing issues. Check the expiration date on your cartridges to ensure they're still within their usable period.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause printing problems.
  • Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve various issues. Turn off both your printer and computer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn them back on.

Refer to this document:  HP OfficeJet 6900, 8010, 8020, 8030 printers - No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issue...

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

How do I check the expiration dates on the print cartridges?

HP Recommended

Okay.  I checked the expiration dates.  They are all good.  I have also done everything you suggested.  So, now I think I have a printer that is just plain dying.  So, I will most likely replace it in the next few months.  Since it prints just fine in black and white, I am not in a hurry.
