Installed the ENVY6420 effortless yesterday. The test and alignment prints were nicely in color. When I tried printing colored documents from MS Word or Adobe Acrobat everything was grey scale. On the printer interface I found nowhere an option to select color. Actually reinstalled the printer again - using HP Smart w/o success. All other functionality is fine, but I need to be able to print in color - flowcharts
Thanks for assisting me getting this solved

@carlb61, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check Printer Settings in the Application:
Go to File > Print.
In the Printer dropdown, select your HP ENVY 6420.
Click Printer Properties or Preferences.
In the settings window, look for a tab that says Color or Paper/Quality.
Make sure Color is selected instead of Black and White or Grayscale.
Check Printer Settings via HP Smart:
Open HP Smart and select your ENVY 6420.
Go to Printer Settings or Advanced Settings.
Look for any setting related to Print Quality or Color.
Ensure it’s set to print in color and not in black and white or draft mode.
Check Printer Driver Settings:
Sometimes, the issue could be with the driver settings.
Open Control Panel on your PC.
Go to Devices and Printers.
Right-click on your HP ENVY 6420 printer and select Printer Properties.
Under the General tab, click Printing Preferences.
Check if there's a setting for color or grayscale that needs to be switched to color.
Reinstall the Printer Driver:
Since you’ve already reinstalled the printer with HP Smart, you could try reinstalling the latest full-featured driver from the HP website.
Go through the installation process and make sure you don’t skip any steps related to color printing.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
