Hi @LeoDubo
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is producing black pages when trying to make copies, there could be several reasons behind this issue. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem:
1. Check the Ink or Toner Cartridge
- Ink/Toner Level: Ensure that your toner or ink cartridges are not empty or nearly empty, particularly the black cartridge. Even if the printer doesn’t show an explicit error, low ink can sometimes result in unexpected behavior.
- Cartridge Status: If you have a color printer, ensure that all cartridges (including the black) are properly installed and securely in place.
- Clean the Cartridge: Dust or debris on the toner or ink cartridge can lead to improper printing. Try cleaning the contacts of the cartridge gently using a clean cloth.
2. Check the Scanner Glass and Scanner Lid
- Dirty Glass: If the scanner glass is dirty, it can cause issues with the scanning process, which may result in a black copy. Clean the scanner glass carefully using a microfiber cloth and a small amount of water.
- Scanner Lid Obstruction: Ensure there’s nothing on or around the scanner lid that could be interfering with the scanning process, causing it to detect an error or overexposure.
3. Check for Paper or Toner Issues
- Paper Type: If you're using special paper like glossy or heavy paper, make sure the printer supports it. Sometimes, heavy or glossy paper can cause print issues.
- Toner Cartridge or Drum: If you're using a laser printer, ensure the drum is in good condition. A faulty or dirty drum can lead to black pages. You might need to replace or clean the drum if necessary.
4. Try a Different Copying Mode
- On many printers, there are different copy settings or modes. If you're trying to copy a photo or color document, make sure that the settings are configured to scan and print in color rather than black and white.
- Reset Copy Settings: Go into the printer settings and reset the copy settings to the default options. Sometimes, a wrong setting can cause strange issues.
5. Perform Printer Reset
- Try a hard reset on the printer. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 1–2 minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on. This will reset the printer and may help fix any temporary issues that are causing it to print black pages.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
