@Tony_-65, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure proper installation: Open the printer's ink cartridge access door and make sure the new cartridges are securely installed in their respective slots. Sometimes, they can appear to be installed but aren’t properly clicked into place.
  • Check for damaged or expired cartridges: Inspect the new cartridges for any visible signs of damage. Sometimes, the ink cartridges could be defective or expired, which can cause issues.
  • Remove and reinstall: Remove the cartridges, wait for about 30 seconds, then reinstall them to make sure they’re seated properly.

Perform a Printer Reset

  • Turn off the printer: Power off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds: This will allow the printer's internal memory to reset.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on: Power the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Clear the Printer Queue

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (on your computer) and right-click the printer icon.
  • Select See what's printing and clear any pending jobs.

Check for Printer Firmware Updates

  • Update Firmware: Outdated firmware may cause issues with the ink system. Check if your printer firmware is up to date:
    • Go to the HP website and search for your printer model.
    • Download and install the latest firmware updates.

Run the Printer’s Built-in Diagnostic Tool

  • From the printer’s control panel, tap on the Setup button (gear icon).
  • Scroll down and tap Tools, then select Print Quality Diagnostics.
  • This tool can help identify any issues with the ink system and guide you through any necessary steps.

Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts

Dirty or obstructed contacts may cause errors with the ink system.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the ink cartridge access door and carefully remove the ink cartridges.
  • Using a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water, clean the copper contacts on the ink cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

Check the Ink System for Leaks

  • If the printer shows signs of leakage or if the error persists, it might be a deeper issue with the ink system. Contact HP support for a replacement if the printer is under warranty.

Perform a Hard Reset on the Printer

If the error persists after checking the cartridges and performing the basic steps above:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Here’s a helpful guide for resolving the 'Printer Failure' error.
