My m479fdw printer could not print black color. It used to have a code 52 but I fixed it by taking the printer apart and replacing the scanner. Now it can print but couldn’t print black color at all, I put a new black cartridge in but it still doesn’t print black. Please help!

Hi @KD001,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw printer is not printing black even after replacing the cartridge, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check Ink Levels: Confirm that the new black cartridge is properly installed and has sufficient ink. Sometimes new cartridges can be defective.
  • Print Head Cleaning: Run the printer's built-in print head cleaning cycle. This can often resolve issues with clogged print heads. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings menu.
  • Alignment and Calibration: Perform a print head alignment and calibration through the printer’s settings. This can help the printer correctly recognize and use the black ink.
  • Check for Leaks or Obstructions: Since you recently replaced the scanner, ensure that no ink or debris is obstructing the print head area. Check for any leaks or blockages.
  • Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes updates can fix printing issues.
  • Reset the Printer: Try performing a factory reset on the printer. This can sometimes resolve persistent issues by resetting all settings to default.
  • Inspect the Cartridge: Remove the black cartridge and check for any protective tape or packaging that might not have been removed.
  • Run Diagnostic Tests: Use the printer's diagnostic tools to check for any errors or issues. Some printers have a built-in diagnostic mode that can help identify problems.
  • Check Connections: Ensure that all connections inside the printer, including those related to the print head, are secure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have checked and tried all the provided steps but the problem is still not fixed. Is there something else I could do? Would it be the recently replaced scanner itself malfunction so it doesn’t print black?
