I installed a new cyan ink cartridge.  It would not print so I bought another new one and installed it.  It doesn't print either.  I've cleaned the printhead, cleaned the smear, and have done all steps suggested by the printer.  It still doesn't print.

Hi @Margaret1016

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you've already taken great steps to troubleshoot this issue, and it's frustrating that the new cyan cartridge still won’t print.

Let’s dive a little deeper to see if we can resolve this:

1. Verify Ink Cartridge Compatibility

Double-check that both cyan cartridges are genuine HP cartridges and compatible with the HP OfficeJet 8022e model.

Ensure the cartridge model matches the required one for your printer (e.g., HP 910 or HP 910XL).

2. Check for Residual Packing Material

Even with new cartridges, sometimes small bits of protective tape or packaging can block the ink flow:

Remove the cyan cartridge and inspect it again.

Ensure there’s no leftover tape, film, or plastic covering the cartridge’s vent or nozzle.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

Ink recognition or flow issues can occur if the electrical contacts are dirty:

Power off your printer and unplug it.

Remove the cyan cartridge.

Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to wipe the gold contact points on the cartridge and inside the cartridge slot.

Let everything dry completely, then reinsert the cartridge and restart the printer.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

A reset can sometimes clear persistent errors:

With the printer powered on, unplug it from the power source.

Wait for at least 60 seconds.

Plug the printer back in and power it on.

5. Inspect the Printhead

Although you’ve cleaned the printhead, there could still be an issue:

Use the printer’s control panel to initiate a deep cleaning of the printhead. This option is typically found under Printer Maintenance.

If the deep cleaning doesn’t work, consider replacing the printhead if it’s available as a user-replaceable part for the OfficeJet 8022e.

6. Update the Firmware

HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.

7. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems.

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the link below to quickly and automatically perform several troubleshooting tasks known to resolve this issue.

When this link is clicked, HP Print and Scan Doctor is downloaded using your Internet browser's download capabilities.

8. Test with Another Document

Sometimes print settings or file format issues can interfere with printing.

Print a simple test page directly from the printer or try a different document to rule out software conflicts.

If the printer still doesn’t recognize the cyan cartridge or won’t print in cyan despite these steps, it might indicate a hardware issue with the ink system or the cartridge slot.
