I have a 8600 all in one printer and I am having an issue with a damaged black cartridge. I just replaced it with a new one with the same error. Could it be a printhead?

Hi @rotoman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you've replaced the black ink cartridge with a new one and are still encountering the same error, it's possible that the issue lies with the printhead or other components of the printer. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the black ink cartridge is properly installed. Make sure it clicks into place securely.
  • Remove the cartridge and then reinsert it to ensure a good connection.

Clean the Printhead:

  • Most printers have a printhead cleaning function. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to run a printhead cleaning cycle.
  • This can help clear any clogs or dried ink that may be affecting the printhead.

Inspect for Physical Damage:

  • Visually inspect the printhead for any signs of physical damage or obstruction. Be careful not to touch the printhead nozzles.
  • If you notice any damage, you may need to replace the printhead.

Update Printer Firmware/Driver:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware and drivers are up-to-date. Visit the printer HP website to download the latest firmware and drivers for your printer model.

Perform a Printer Self-Test:

  • Many printers have a self-test or diagnostic page that you can print. This can help identify issues with specific colors or components.
  • Consult your printer manual for instructions on how to print a self-test page.

Try Another Cartridge:

  • If possible, try a different black ink cartridge to rule out the possibility of a defective cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Alden,

Thanks for the reply. Tried everything you suggested. Bought a new cartridge, checked the firmware and tried to print a test page and tried to clean the printhead. Same error. If it is the printhead I’m not going to spend the money for a printer that’s not supported. I’ll buy a new one.
