Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have had an HP Envy  printer for several years and have been using the instant ink option.  I loved it up until Sunday when they said my printer had "expired" and I could no longer use it because they no longer support it.  What gives them the right to say I cannot use my own printer.  I bought it outright at a store.  I did not lease it from them.

This past Thursday, 05 23/24, I received 3 new cartridges  (2 color HP 75Q & 1 black HP 75S).  I installed one of the color cartridges immediately as I was out of ink.  I still have one color and one black cartridge unused and waiting to be installed as needed.  I've paid for these cartridges but I cannot use them because HP says my printer has "expired" and they will no longer support it.   Why then did they send me 3 cartridges if they knew I wasn't going to be able to use them.  Why did I not receive any warning this was going to happen?

I should at least get my money back and be able to carry over any pages that I have not used during this billing cycle to my new printer.  It should be delivered Thursday.

Hi @Franki1970,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's understandably frustrating to find out that your printer is no longer supported, especially when you recently received new ink cartridges. Here’s how you can address this situation:

Understanding HP Instant Ink and Printer "Expiration"

HP Instant Ink Program:a

  • The Instant Ink program is a subscription service where you pay for the number of pages you print, and HP sends you replacement cartridges as needed. These cartridges are specially tied to the Instant Ink subscription and may not work if your printer is no longer supported by the program.

Printer Support Discontinuation:

  • HP, like many tech companies, periodically discontinues support for older models to focus resources on newer products. This can include ending services like Instant Ink for those models.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
