I purchased a 3-pack of color cartridges for my printer. Upon installing one of the cartridges I received a message that the cartridge appeared to be damaged and to replace with a new cartridge. I followed all the troubleshooting recommendations and nothing worked. I tried to return the cartridge to the vendor but they said they could not accept the return because it was open and that I should contact HP for a replacement. The cartridge is under warranty until 11/2026. How do I go about filing a claim for a replacement cartridge?

Possibly, the printhead needs to be cleaned.
This link shows cleaning the 8600 printhead and removal is shown here.
Cleaning and removing ink is shown below by our "Scullery" team.
An HP original video on how to clean the printheads by our experts. Yes, this can get messy, but it works. If your ink levels are good but you are printing blank pages then this is likely the solution.
Official HP advice on cleaning.
Some printers have a printhead cleaning procedure.
To clean the printhead on an HP printer, access the printer settings through the HP Smart app, navigate to "Print Quality Tools," and select "Clean Printhead"; this will initiate a cleaning cycle where the printer will automatically run a cleaning process to clear any clogs in the printhead |
Inkjet and printhead cleaning kits are available
Consumer inkjet printer printheads typically last for several years, with some lasting up to 10 years or even longer. However, the lifespan can vary greatly depending on usage, maintenance, and environmental factors.
if the cartridge is defective then contact HP agent
How to contact an HP agent:
Sign in to your support page
Select the product you need help with and scroll down to support options.
Select "Contact us". You can change country and language if necessary.
If you are out of warranty, you might consider asking Microsoft's Copilot for advice. Be sure to identify your product, what the problem is, and ask for videos.
There is also HP smart friend but Copilot is not restricted on answering certain questions.
