Defective ink cartridge . one of set of 3

HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a set of 3 replacement cartridges for my HP Officejet Pro 6835. Same 935 set I have always used. After installing these the printer gives a incompatible C cartridge message. Reinstalling the old  works other than the low ink message. I've tried using HP support but that is a waste of time trying to get the cartridge replaced. Any suggestions as to how to get this replaced or to talk to an actual human being? Or am I just out of luck and it's time to buy a different brand of printer? Thanks for any advice you can give me.
