Hi @Clarivel01, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Depleted Black Ink" message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 means the printer is detecting an empty or non-functional black ink cartridge. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Check the Ink Cartridge

  • Open the ink cartridge access door and check if the black cartridge is properly installed.
  • Remove and reinsert the cartridge securely.
  • If it looks physically damaged or empty, consider replacing it.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP 952, 952XL, 953, 953XL, or 954 ink cartridges (depending on your region).
  • If you’re using refilled or third-party cartridges, they may not be recognized correctly.

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from power for 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and restart.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and remove the black ink cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Let it dry and reinstall the cartridge.

Reset the Printer

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds and then plug it back in.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error clears.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Go to HP Support and check for firmware updates for your printer.
  • Install updates through the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel (under Setup > Printer Update).

Try a New Black Ink Cartridge

  • If the message persists, try replacing the black cartridge with a new one.
