Hi. I have a deskjet 4130e printer that is now probably 2 years old. I however seldom use it, often going months in-between needing to print anything. Last year I had an issue where the black ink was greyed out. After trying all of the suggested fixes I contacted HP I was sent a new cartridge. This solved the problem briefly but once again the issues has arisen and now I can't even do a page alignment as no black ink is on this test sheet. Wish I'd stayed with an Epsom now.

Hi @72SM,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are experiencing an issue with your HP Deskjet 4130e printer. It's frustrating when you encounter issues like this, especially after trying various troubleshooting steps and receiving a replacement cartridge.
Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the problem with the black ink:
Clean the printhead: Sometimes, the printhead can become clogged with dried ink, especially if the printer hasn't been used for a while. Most printers have a utility or option in the settings menu to clean the printhead. You can try running this utility to see if it improves the print quality.
Manually clean the printhead: If the automated printhead cleaning doesn't work, you can try manually cleaning the printhead. You'll need to turn off the printer and remove the ink cartridges. Then, use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water to gently wipe the printhead. Be careful not to apply too much pressure or use any harsh cleaning solutions, as this could damage the printhead.
Check ink levels: Make sure that the black ink cartridge has enough ink. Sometimes, even if the cartridge is installed, it may not have sufficient ink to print properly. You can check the ink levels through the printer's control panel or by using the printer software on your computer.
Replace the black ink cartridge: If the ink levels are low or if you suspect that the cartridge may be faulty, try replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one. Make sure to use genuine HP cartridges to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.
Update printer firmware and drivers: Sometimes, issues with printer performance can be resolved by updating the printer's firmware and drivers. Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware and drivers for your printer model. Follow the instructions provided to install the updates.
