HP ENVY Inspire 7255e All-in-One Printer

I just installed new HP Instant Ink cartridges into my printer. Now the printer refuses to align the cartridges properly. I’ve done every level of cleaning, reset the printer, reinstalled the cartridges, and chatted with the virtual assistant. Nothing works.

Hi @EmJay2208,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY Inspire 7200e printer is having trouble aligning the cartridges after installing new HP Instant Ink cartridges, and you've already tried cleaning, resetting, and reinstalling, there are a few additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the alignment issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure Proper Installation: Remove the cartridges and carefully reinstall them. Make sure they click into place securely.
  • Remove Protective Tape: Verify that all protective tape and packaging have been removed from the cartridges.

2. Check for Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Verify Cartridge Type: Ensure that the cartridges you installed are compatible with your printer model. Sometimes incorrect cartridges can cause alignment issues.

3. Clean the Printheads and Cartridges:

  • Manually Clean Printheads: Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the printhead contacts inside the printer.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Gently wipe the copper contacts on the cartridges with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove any smudges or residue.

4. Perform a Printer Alignment:

  • Initiate Alignment: Go to your printer's settings and start the alignment process again. If using the printer's control panel, follow the on-screen prompts. If using software, navigate to the printer maintenance section and select alignment.

5. Check and Align the Printer Manually:

  • Print Alignment Page: If the printer is unable to automatically align, you may need to manually align it. Print a test page or alignment page and follow any manual instructions provided in your printer’s user manual.

6. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers:

  • Update Firmware: Check the HP website for any firmware updates for your printer model. Install any available updates to ensure that your printer is running the latest firmware.
  • Update Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Visit the HP website to download and install the most recent drivers.

7. Check Printer Settings:

  • Paper Type and Size: Make sure the paper type and size settings in the printer driver match the paper you are using. Incorrect settings can sometimes affect alignment.

8. Reset Printer to Factory Defaults:

  • Factory Reset: Perform a factory reset on the printer. Refer to the printer’s manual or HP’s online support resources for instructions on how to reset your specific model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
