HP ENVY Photo 7858 prints faded or blank sheets. Printer has been power cycled and drivers are up to date. Color and black ink cartridges are around half full. Printer has repeatedly had cartridges cleaned, alignments (failed), and smear cleaned. We don't print that much. I don't know what else to try.

Hi @NHamm2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP ENVY Photo 7858 printer is printing faded or blank sheets despite having cartridges with sufficient ink levels and having undergone cleaning and alignment processes, there are a few additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Verify Ink Cartridge Functionality

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and have enough ink remaining. Even if they are around half full, there may be an issue with the cartridges themselves.
  • Try New Cartridges: If possible, try replacing the current cartridges with new ones to rule out the possibility of faulty cartridges.

2. Perform Print Quality Diagnostic Tests

  • Print Diagnostic Page: Print a diagnostic page from the printer's control panel to check for any issues with the print heads or ink delivery system.
  • Nozzle Check: Many printers have a nozzle check function that can help identify any clogged nozzles or other print head issues.

3. Clean Print Heads Manually

  • Manual Cleaning: If the print heads are clogged or dirty, you can manually clean them using distilled water and lint-free cloth or cotton swabs. Follow the printer manufacturer's instructions for manual cleaning.

4. Check Paper Quality and Settings

  • Paper Quality: Ensure that you are using the correct type of paper for your printer. Low-quality or incompatible paper can affect print quality.
  • Printer Settings: Check the printer settings to ensure they are optimized for the type of paper you are using (e.g., plain paper, photo paper).

5. Update Firmware

  • Firmware Update: Check for any firmware updates for your printer on the HP website and install them if available. Firmware updates can sometimes address printing issues.

6. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Driver Reinstallation: Uninstall the printer drivers from your computer and reinstall them. Sometimes, corrupted or outdated drivers can cause printing problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
