I have an "the indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with this printer. Replace the cartridges". I did that and I'm still getting the error message. I've turned the printer on and off and am still getting the message.

HI @CatfishCindy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "cartridges are not communicating correctly" error can be particularly frustrating. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve this issue:
Steps to Resolve Cartridge Communication Error:
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure that the cartridges are installed correctly. Remove the cartridges and reinstall them, making sure they click into place securely.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove the cartridges and gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
Reset the Printer:
- With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then back into the printer.
- Turn on the printer and check if the error message has cleared.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This utility can help diagnose and fix many common printing problems, including communication errors with cartridges.
Check Firmware Update:
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges.
- Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware for your printer model.
Inspect Cartridges for Damage:
- Examine the cartridges for any visible damage or leaks. If the cartridges are damaged, they may need to be replaced.
Ensure Cartridges Are Genuine:
- Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause communication errors.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Perform a hard reset of the printer. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on again.
Try Another Set of Cartridges:
- If possible, try using another set of cartridges. Even new cartridges can sometimes be defective
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
