Hello,

First a remark:

It borders on arrogance for a company that sells its products on the German market to force German customers to communicate in English. Back to topic.

Question:

How do i see in HP-Smart that the cartridge is empty? Currently there are two bars on the left

side of the Black  ink, but the print quality is still poor???

Regards

Hi @Shamrock1903,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re seeing two bars left for the black ink in HP Smart, but the print quality is still poor. Let’s go through a few steps to check your ink levels accurately and fix the print quality issue.

a. Check Ink Levels in HP Smart

Open the HP Smart app on your computer or phone.

Select your printer from the home screen.

The ink level indicators will appear next to the printer image — each color bar represents the estimated ink remaining.

If there are two bars left, the cartridge is low but not empty.

Keep in mind, HP Smart only gives an approximation, not an exact level.

b. Print a Quality Diagnostic Page

On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Print Quality Report.

Check the page for faded areas, missing lines, or streaks.

If black text looks faint or uneven, it indicates clogged printhead nozzles, not necessarily low ink.

c. Clean the Printhead

From the printer menu, select Setup → Printer Maintenance → Clean Printhead.

After the cleaning cycle, print another Print Quality Report.

You may need to repeat this 2–3 times for improvement.

d. Check for Protective Tape or Air Vent Blockage

Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the black cartridge.

Make sure the plastic protective tape covering the ink nozzles has been completely removed.

Inspect the vent on top of the cartridge (small slit under the label). If it’s clogged, gently clean it with a pin or paper clip.

e. Align the Printer

Go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Align Printer.

Follow the instructions to complete alignment for best print quality.

I hope this helps.
