I'm using Microsoft Publisher to design images for iron-on transfers for t-shirts and printing them on heat transfer paper. Everything looked good at first but several packages of transfer paper and new HP toner cartridges later, my images have "grainy areas" in them. As i print more pages, subsequent pages get worse.

 

I have casually inspected the toner cartridges, run calibration and cleaning operations, printed test pages, and updated the printing software. I have also tried different settings for paper type (labels, heavy stock, plain paper, etc). I'd say the problem is getting worse. Here's an example:

Any suggestions?

Worked with the manufacturer of the transfer paper and after trying various settings on the printer I replaced the black and the cyan toner cartridges. Problem resolved.  The cyan toner was probably responsible for problems with blues "bleeding" into other colors when the transfer was ironed on the shirt.

I just did a firmware update and it didn't make any difference, so I used Windows 10 Snip and Sketch to capture the Publisher 2016 document and print it. It wasn't perfect but was markedly better on plain paper. Still not usable on transfer paper however.
