Firmware locked up my printer when I installed 3rd party cartridges. -- fair enough (not really) so I bought HP genuine cartridges and still locked up. Sometimes get the "use the cartridges that came with the printer" screen, sometimes "error, restart". Need to reset factory settings but cannot get to that option -- (hitting the back arrow 4x doesn't work). Is this printer toast, or is there a work around?

Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
We need to perform a Semi full reset to restore the printer back to its original settings.
The reset instructions are specific to your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile, next to your profile Name, or simply click on this link.
