@Angel1951, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Could you please let us know if your printer is enrolled to instant ink program? If yes, I would need to know a few details regarding your Instant ink account.
Since the instant ink account details are confidential, please send me the required information via private message.

To locate your account, please provide

Your registered email address

Your Instant Ink account ID

Serial number of your printer enrolled in instant ink

Confirm your address,

Meanwhile, please try these steps, (if your printer is not enrolled to HP instant ink)
Check Cartridge Authenticity:

  • Ensure you're using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause issues.

Clean the Printhead:

  • On the printer's touchscreen:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
    • Run the cleaning cycle up to 2 times.
    • Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page to check results.

Check Cartridge Vents:

  • Remove the cartridge and inspect the vent area (small copper or plastic strip).
  • If clogged, gently clean it with a lint-free cloth.

Try Printing in Color:

  • If black ink isn’t printing, try printing a color document to see if the color cartridges are working.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.

Update Firmware:

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

This printer is not printing. When I went to use my other printer in the EOC, that didn’t want to work.
then I was told to contact my account. They were unable to charge me for pages due to my switching banks. But, I already had cartridges at my house to use. So I did not have to purchase.
I am really considering not going with insta ink. The 6978 also no longer be updated. I have known for a while. I think that is another issue. Thanks
