@gcordner, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Ink Level Discrepancies on HP 7002 All-in-One Printers!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It's frustrating when your HP Smart app displays incorrect ink levels for your printer, especially when you have verified that the ink is actually out. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue and ensure your ink levels are displayed correctly.
Step 1: Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges
HP recommends using genuine HP cartridges for optimal functionality. Non-HP or refilled cartridges may cause discrepancies in ink level reporting.
Step 2: Update Printer Firmware
Even if your drivers are up to date, ensure your printer's firmware is current. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve printer communication.
Step 3: Reset the Printer
- Turn off the Printer: Use the power button to switch off the printer and unplug the power cable from the outlet.
- Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect and Power On: Plug the power cable back in and turn on the printer.
Step 4: Reinstall the HP Smart App
- Uninstall the HP Smart App: Remove the app from your device.
- Reinstall the App:
- Visit the app store compatible with your device.
- Search for and reinstall the HP Smart app.
- Reconnect your Printer: Follow the prompts to connect your printer to the app and check the ink levels again.
Step 5: Check for Physical Issues
- Remove and Reinstall Cartridges: Sometimes removing and reinstalling the ink cartridges can reset the ink level detection.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Ensure that there is no dirt or residue on the cartridge contacts that might affect communication with the printer.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
