Hi @lhavel3266,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer ink cartridge!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e printer is showing an "Ink Depleted" message despite using a brand-new cartridge, try these troubleshooting steps:

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Make sure you're using genuine HP 973X or HP 973A ink cartridges.
If it's a third-party or refilled cartridge, the printer may not recognize it.

Reset the Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
Wait 2-3 minutes.
Plug it back in and turn it on.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

Open the printer and remove the ink cartridge.
Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to wipe the gold/copper contacts.
Let it dry, then reinstall the cartridge.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause recognition issues.
Go to HP Support → Search for your printer model → Download the latest firmware.
Install the update and restart the printer.

Reinstall the Cartridge Properly

Remove the cartridge and turn off the printer.
Wait 2 minutes.
Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Disable HP Instant Ink (If Subscribed)

If you were previously enrolled in HP Instant Ink but switched to regular cartridges, your printer might still be locked to Instant Ink cartridges.
Log in to HP Instant Ink and cancel your subscription, if applicable.

Perform a Printer Reset (Factory Reset)

Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
Select Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.
Reconfigure the printer and check if the issue is resolved.

Let me know how it goes. 💙😊
