HP Recommended

I have a HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M177fw  printer which I rarely use to print.

When i print, there is smudging that is concentrated on the left hand side - about an inch from the left edge on a A4 paper.. There are so not so obvious black dots that are scattered on the right margin. I am using black color. 

 

Any idea what could be the problem? My cartridge? My black cartridge was bought a few years ago but I rarely used it.
