It seems like the top or bottom (whichever is which) is removed when copying a A4 documents directly (not using PC or phone).

I tried setting the setting to "fit to page" but it still crops of a part. Is the scanner aligned wrongly or is it just the limits of the printer print margin area that is the cause for the problem?

I was thinking if it did automatic cropping but I am not sure about this.

Is the only solution to shrink the copy to a smaller size or is the printer faulty? I don't think you can change the shrink to something like 95% right? (unless using a pc software) but I want to be able to just copy documents directly without having to use the pc so what should I do?

Hi @Jarpe,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color Laser MFP 178nw is cropping documents incorrectly when copying, follow these steps to fix the issue:

Step 1: Check Paper Size and Type Settings

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Setup (⚙️).
  2. Navigate to Paper SetupPaper Size and ensure it matches the paper loaded in the tray (e.g., A4, Letter).
  3. Go to Paper Type and set it correctly (Plain Paper for standard copies).

Step 2: Adjust Copy Settings

  1. Press the Copy button on the printer.
  2. Select Copy SettingsReduce/Enlarge and set it to 100% (Actual Size).
  3. If the printer is set to "Fit to Page" or "Auto," it may crop parts of the document—disable this option.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
