I'm in the process of setting up a DeskJet 2710 printer, but I can't get past the "use SETUP cartridges" message because the printer doesn't seem to recognize them. Not sure how to solve this problem, so any advice would be appreciated.

Hi @Ivan194176,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP DeskJet 2710 printer is displaying a "use SETUP cartridges" message and it doesn't seem to recognize the cartridges, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.
- Ensure Cartridges are Compatible: Make sure that you are using the correct setup cartridges that came with your printer. These are typically starter cartridges and are meant to be used during the initial setup.
- Proper Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed. Open the printer's cartridge access door, remove the cartridges, and then reinsert them. Follow the instructions provided in the printer's manual for the correct cartridge installation procedure.
- Remove Protective Tape: Check if there's any protective tape or plastic covering on the cartridges. Sometimes, new cartridges come with protective coverings that need to be removed before installation.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: If the cartridges have been sitting for a while or are not recognized, it could be due to dust or debris on the cartridge contacts. Remove the cartridges and gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a clean, lint-free cloth.
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve recognition issues.
- Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates on the HP website and follow their instructions for updating.
- Factory Reset: If none of the above steps work, you might consider performing a factory reset on the printer. This will reset the printer to its default settings, and you can set it up again. Check your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
