HP ENVY 6430e All-in-One Printer

I bought this printer about 2 months ago. I used up all the ink that came with the printer, and although I signed up for the automatic ink supply subscription in the app when I installed the printer, I canceled it after a week. Then, I bought HP 67 ink from Office Depot and have been using it, but before I canceled the subscription a while ago, the ink that was sent arrived and I was waiting to return it, but HP didn't contact me at all, so I couldn't do anything, and I started using it for the past 2 weeks. Yesterday, HP confirmed that the subscription cancellation was completed. However, the printer doesn't work after that. Do I have to have an ink subscription to use an HP printer? Also, can I only use OEM ink?

@John3160000000,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP ENVY 6430e printer is still linked to HP's Instant Ink program, which could be why it stopped working after your cancellation was confirmed. Here’s what’s likely happening and how you can fix it.

Why is the printer not printing?

Instant Ink Cartridges are Deactivated

  • If you're using the ink that HP sent you as part of the Instant Ink subscription, those cartridges are subscription-based and will stop working once your subscription is canceled.
  • Instant Ink cartridges are not regular cartridges; they are tied to the subscription and cannot be used after cancellation.

Regular HP 67 Ink Should Work

  • Since you bought HP 67 ink from Office Depot, these should work as long as they are genuine HP cartridges (OEM).
  • However, if the printer was still using Instant Ink cartridges, it will not print with those.

How to Fix It

Remove Instant Ink Cartridges

  • Take out the ink cartridges that were sent by HP through the subscription.
  • If you are unsure, check the label—Instant Ink cartridges are usually larger and say "Instant Ink" on them.

Install the HP 67 Ink You Purchased

  • Insert the HP 67 ink cartridges that you bought from Office Depot.

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then turn it back on.

Check for Error Messages

  • If there are any error messages, let me know what they say.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
