Hello, I have an issue when I print color documents.
The HP Envy print only in bw, regardless the software I use.
When I print the test page all the colors are printed correctly.
Someone could help me to understand the issue?
Thank You.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick response, and I appreciate your patience.
Since you're not seeing any color options in the usual settings, we may be dealing with a more specific driver or configuration issue. Even though the test page prints in color (indicating the printer itself is functioning properly), certain settings or driver mismatches can restrict print jobs from applications to black and white only.
At this point, a key step would be to double-check the type of driver your system is using. Sometimes, the printer gets installed with a basic driver that doesn’t support advanced settings like color printing from software applications.
To move forward, let’s try reinstalling the printer with the full feature driver package:
First, uninstall the printer from your system:
On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the HP Envy 4520, and select Remove device.
On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select the printer, and click the minus (-) sign to remove it.
Then, download and install the HP Full Feature Software and Drivers from this link:
HP Envy 4520 Drivers & Software
During installation, select USB or Wireless depending on your connection, and make sure to choose the full package, not the basic driver.
Once this is done, try printing a color document again, and look for a “Color” option under Printer Properties or Preferences when initiating the print job. You might also need to expand the “Advanced” or “More Settings” section depending on the application you're using.
I hope this helps.

Hi @Gabri228,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
1. Check Printer Settings:
- Open the document you want to print and go to the print dialog.
- Ensure that you have selected "Color" in the print settings, as some applications might default to "Black & White" or "Grayscale."
2. Check Application Settings:
- Verify that the software or application you are printing from isn't set to print in black and white. Settings within apps like Word, Excel, or PDF readers can override printer settings.
3. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Envy 4520. Install the new drivers and check if the issue persists.
4. Check Printer Preferences in Control Panel (Windows Only):
- Go to "Devices and Printers" in the Control Panel.
- Right-click your HP Envy 4520 printer and select "Printer properties."
- Under the "General" or "Advanced" tab, look for an option to "Preferences" or "Printing Preferences" and ensure it is set to color.
5. Reset Print Settings (Mac Only):
- In macOS, reset the printing system by navigating to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-clicking on any printer, and selecting "Reset printing system."
6. Print Directly from Printer:
- Sometimes, printing directly from the printer's web interface or app could bypass any issues caused by software. Check if your printer supports this feature and try printing directly.
7. Restart Devices:
- Turn off the printer and restart your computer. This can sometimes resolve temporary communication errors.
I hope this helps.
