HP OfficeJet 4500 G510a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This printer originally used HP 901 Ink, which has been depreciated and replaced with HP 60 ink which is supposed to be compatible with this printer according to HP.  When the OEM HP 60 ink is placed into the printer it is rejected as being "Not Compatible Ink."

The first thing that came to mind to address this was a firmware update being needed.  All posts by HP support on these forums say to do a firmware update.  However all of the people who wrote those replies apparently do not make any attempt to follow the instructions they gave themselves.  All instructions fail at the first step, because literally all of the direction on the forum, as well as everywhere on this HP site dealing with this topic, tells the user to go to the Software & Drivers page for this product and to choose firmware and download it.  Even a help page explicitly titled Upgrading firmware for an HP OfficeJet 4500.

The problem is that the Software & Drivers page does not include any firmware download options.  What makes this even worse is that going from the communications from the HP support people in identical threads about this very issue it sounds like instead of just posting the download link for everyone that they instead private messaged it to the specific person.  That defeats the entire purpose of these forums.

Provide a direct and permanent link to the firmware upgrade for this printer.
