Hello,

I have an HP Officejet 5740 and I've run into this problem that has been driving me absolutely crazy. For the longest time I have had no issues with the alignment of the printheads and having everything print fine until recently. I had to replace the color ink cartridge and suddenly the colored ink will not print aligned at all. I've done all of the troubleshooting options (I am here because the virtual assistant cannot provide any more solutions). These are the things I have gone through trying to solve the issue:

- Cleaning Printheads via the Printer: The process would complete and when the diagnostic would print, the "black" bar would be doubled and the square using all of the colors is unaligned. I have gone through all trials of the cleaning and the results have stayed the same.

- Manually cleaning the printhead: Completed this process and it has not changed anything.

- Cleaning the circuitry of the cartridge and the printer: Completed this process and no change.

- Hard reset of the printer: no change

- Alignment via the Printer: Says alignment is successful, however the bar that uses both the black and cyan ink shows the cyan peeking out of the right side by about 1 mm.

- Updating firmware: the printer says the firmware is up to date.

- Changing the cartridge: I've gone through three new cartridges at this point and the issue remains.

- These are all genuine HP cartridges.

What else is there to do? I am extremely frustrated as I cannot get this replaced since it is far past the warranty and cannot afford a new printer. I need to be able to print in color for some of my work and this has made that pretty much impossible.

Hi @Merlin_Hana,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.

I see that there is an issue with the printer hardware and may need repair.

This issue might require one-on-one interaction to fix it.
