HP Officejet 8010 will not print colour when sending from computer or phone

I recently bought a HP Officejet 8010 and it was working finr at first (have had it for nearly 2 months). But these last few weeks when trying to print a colour image/document from my computer it comes out in black and white only. Same happens if I try to print from my phone directly to the printer. 

If I scan, it will print in colour so it's not the ink cartrdiges or printhead. 

There are no visible settings on my MAC about printing in colour or black/white. I have contacted HP who provided no help, but referred me to the online materials that didn't solve my issue. I contacted apple and they upgraded my software to the recent one, but that also didn't solve the problem. 

Sometimes it won't even print double sided (and others it does) and sometimes when it does print double sided it prints the second page upside down. It often disconnects from the computer as though it is not recognised and takes a few days to return. 

I am not sure if I have a dodgy printer or whether this is a known issue for others. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue before I take it back and get a refund.
