I recently had to replace the ink cartridges (951 or 951XL).  I received a Printer Failure error despite trying several new cartridges.  I followed the instructions provided by Kuroi_Kenshi from HP  (thank you!).  He indicated to take all cartridges out, turn off the printer for 10, turn it back on and insert one cartridge to get the printer message after each one.   This is how I determined it was the Cyn specifically.

We have an identical printer and had to replace the cartridges as well.  Again, we determined it was the Cyn cartridge.  I see that HP has reduced the packaging (no outer pouch).  I did not see any cover for the hole were the ink is dispensed.

Is anyone experiencing the same issue?  We love the printer but it is rendered useless without all the cartridges.  I can't even print in black/white.  Once I put in the Cyn, It immediately goes to Printer Failure.

Hi @AliCon2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Reinstall Cartridges: Remove all cartridges from the printer. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 10 seconds and plug it back in. Install the cartridges one by one, starting from the cyan cartridge, and check for any printer error messages after each cartridge installation.

Reset Printer: Sometimes resetting the printer can also solve cartridge recognition problems. Follow the reset procedure where you remove the cartridges, shut down the printer, unplug it, and then replug and restart it.

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Assure that the installed cartridges are compatible with HP Officejet 8600. You should use either the HP 951 or 951XL cartridges which are recommended for this model.

Clean Electrical Contacts: There could be an issue with the electrical contacts on either the cartridge itself or within the printer’s carriage. Use a lint-free cloth to gently wipe off any ink residue or dust from the contacts.

Verify Cartridge Placement: Ensure each cartridge is firmly seated in its correct slot. Each cartridge must align with the color-coded marks within the cartridge bay.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Use genuine HP cartridges to avoid failure and inconsistencies, as non-genuine cartridges might not work properly with the printer and could lead to errors.

I hope this helps.
