Hi @nell50,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium is indicating that one of the cartridges is damaged and prompting you to schedule maintenance, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Inspect the Cartridge:

  • Open the printer cover and carefully remove the cartridge that is reported as damaged.
  • Check for any visible signs of damage on the cartridge, such as leaks or physical defects. If you see any issues, consider replacing the cartridge with a new one.

Clean the Contacts:

  • Make sure the cartridge contacts are clean. Use a lint-free cloth and gently wipe the contacts on the cartridge to remove any dirt or residue.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and resolve cartridge issues.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware updates installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can address compatibility issues and improve printer performance.

Run Printer Maintenance:

  • If the printer is prompting you to schedule maintenance, follow the on-screen instructions to run the maintenance routine. This may involve cleaning printheads or aligning cartridges.

Replace the Cartridge:

  • If the cartridge is indeed damaged or cannot be resolved through cleaning, consider replacing it with a new, genuine HP cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
