@Mos-78, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re dealing with an issue where your HP Smart Tank 580 printer is detecting low ink even after refilling the tanks.
You're right that the primary source of ink for these printers is the ink tanks, not the individual cartridges.
However, there could be a few reasons why you're still getting the "low ink" error message:

Ink Sensor Issue: Sometimes, the printer's ink sensors can misread the ink levels even after refilling the tanks. This could require a reset or a clearing of the sensor data.

Cartridge and Ink Tank Connection: Although the ink tanks are the primary source, some models still rely on the cartridges for certain functions. If the cartridge is not properly seated or if there's an issue with the cartridge contacts, it might trigger an error, even if the ink tanks are full.

Firmware Update or Reset: Try performing a reset of the printer. A firmware update might also help if there's a known issue with how it reads ink levels.

Ink Quality and Compatibility: Double-check the type of ink you're using. HP recommends using genuine ink to avoid compatibility issues. If you're using third-party ink, it may not be properly detected.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the error message.

Check the Ink Level via the HP Smart App: The app might show more accurate readings for ink levels and help you troubleshoot further.

Clean the Contacts: If the printer uses cartridges in conjunction with ink tanks, ensure that the cartridge contacts and the ink tank’s contact areas are clean. Use a soft, lint-free cloth with a little water if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
