I TOOK THE CART I PUT IN BACK TO OFFICE DEPOT FOR REPLACEMENT THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE DEFECTIVE, REPLACED AGAIN TODAY AND SAME THING.  MY PRINTER IS OLD, BUT SO AWESOME.  WELL TAKEN CARE OF.  GREAT QUALITY.  IS IT NOT COMPATIBLE ANYMORE?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP

I also have an HP Officejet 8600 (not plus) and had a message saying that the cyan and black cartridges were damaged.  I took them back and exchanged them for new ink, but still get the same error.  I have posted about my issue, but have not found a solution yet, so I'm hoping we both get one!

Hi @NAUNIE1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus keeps reporting a Cyan cartridge error despite your efforts. Here are a few more troubleshooting steps you might try:

Reset the Printer: Apart from turning the printer off and on, a more complete reset might help:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about a minute before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Clean the Contacts: Since you’ve cleaned the printhead, also ensure that the electrical contacts in the cartridge slot and on the cartridge itself are clean:

  • Use a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol or water to gently wipe the copper-colored contacts. Be careful not to touch the contacts with your fingers.
  • After cleaning, let them dry completely before inserting the cartridge back into the printer.

Update Printer Firmware: Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve cartridge recognition issues. Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer:

  • You can do this by accessing the printer’s menu under 'Settings' or 'Tools', or by visiting the HP website and entering your printer model to find and download the latest firmware.

Check for Debris and Proper Installation: Make sure there is no debris or dust inside the cartridge carriage. Also, double-check if the cartridges are properly seated and installed in their respective slots.

Try an Old Cartridge: If you still have the old cartridges that didn’t cause an error, try reinserting one to see if the error persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the new cartridges or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
