I purchased genuine HP cartridges for my HP8610 and simply replaced the empty black cartridge with a new one.  Now I keep getting error messages that the cartridge may be damaged.  Help!

Hi @JoniStuart,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some frustration with your printer! Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the issue.

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix many problems. Turn off your printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on.
  • Reinstall the Cartridge: Try removing the new black cartridge and then reinstalling it. Make sure it's securely seated in the cartridge slot.
  • Check for Protective Strips: Many ink cartridges come with protective strips or tape that need to be removed before installation. Ensure that you've removed any protective coverings from the cartridge.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the contacts on the cartridge and in the cartridge slot of the printer. This can help ensure a good connection.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Sometimes, printer errors can be due to outdated firmware. Check if there are any updates available for your printer's firmware and install them.

Give these steps a try, and hopefully, they'll help resolve the problem!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
