HP Officejet Pro 8630 e-All-in-One Printer

Printer doesn’t acknowledge cyan cartridge despite 2 new ones tried. Says cartridge damaged. Other cartridges fine. Won’t accept commands to clean print head or align. Will not print anything. Hard reset failed to improve. Scanner actually works fine. Ideas? Printhead failure? Repair options/cost?

Hi @GuyHH3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If you have performed all the steps from this document and still having issues, either the cartridges are faulty or the printer needs service.

Try updating the firmware and see if that helps if available. Select your current OS. Click here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I tried all those steps but no success. The printer reads zero ink in cyan though it is brand new and full. The other cartridges correctly read full. Printer advises cyan cartridge is damaged and should be replaced but it reads the same on two separate brand new cyan cartridges so the problem is not the cartridge itself. Do you suspect the print head needs replacement? It is part CR322A but is no longer available from HP. A new one on ebay is about $138. Would getting this be your next step advice? If not what would you suggest? The printer is from 2015, out of warranty. Would a new printer be more advisable given the age? Also, I only rarely use the color ink and generally just require black ink printing. Is there a way to get the machine to copy/print in black and just bypass this cartridge problem?

Hi @GuyHH3,

Thank you for performing the recommended steps, I see that it has not helped.

Well, given the age, I recommend a new printer. That would be a wise choice.

I am afraid, bypassing the cartridge would do not do the trick.

However, I recommend you contact phone support for more details regarding replacing the printer.

For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.
