Hi @Tonya4653, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error message you’re seeing could be due to HP’s Dynamic Security feature, which prevents the use of non-genuine ink.
Possible Solutions:
Check for Firmware Updates
- If you recently updated your printer’s firmware, it may have blocked third-party ink. You can try downgrading the firmware to an older version that allows generic ink.
Disable Cartridge Protection
- On your printer screen, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Cartridge Protection and disable it.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 10-15 minutes, then restart.
Use an Older Set of HP Cartridges
- Insert old HP cartridges, let the printer recognize them, then swap in the generic ones.
Disable Automatic Updates
- If you manage to get it working, disable firmware updates in HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server to prevent future blocking.
We strongly recommend you use HP cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
