Hi so i recently was needing to print and when I did the quality wasn’t clear. I searched to see what I could do to troubleshoot myself and I cleaned the black ink cartridge didn’t work. Reset the printer didn’t work. Unplugged the printer for 5 mins and didn’t work. Changed the ink cartridge although it said this one u had in there was full and didn’t work. The colored ink works but not the black. What is going on?

Hi @wessley4747,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've gone through some standard troubleshooting steps already, but let's see if we can pinpoint the issue with your HP printer's black ink not printing clearly.

Here are a few more steps you could try.

  • Print Quality Diagnostic Report: Most HP printers have a diagnostic report option in the settings menu. This report can often identify issues with specific ink cartridges or printhead alignment. Try printing this report to see if it highlights any problems with the black ink.
  • Printhead Cleaning: Many HP printers have an option to clean the printhead through the settings menu. This can sometimes resolve issues with print quality. Make sure to run the cleaning cycle a couple of times if needed.
  • Alignment: Check if your printer has an option for printhead alignment. Sometimes misalignment can cause issues with print quality, especially if you've recently replaced the cartridge.
  • Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes firmware updates include fixes for print quality issues.
  • Check Ink Levels: Even if the printer indicates that the ink cartridge is full, it's possible that there's an issue with the cartridge itself. Check the ink levels through the printer's control panel or software on your computer to ensure that the cartridge is recognized and has ink.
  • Inspect Cartridge: Take a close look at the black ink cartridge. Check for any signs of damage or blockage, such as dried ink or debris on the printhead.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
