Regarding HP office jet 8600 series,  the yellow print cartridge indicated it was low.  bought and installed a new HP print cartridge and get an  error message that ' yellow print cartridge is defective and needs to  be replaced'.  i also  tried a spare yellow cartridge and got same message.   I  asked 2 other people to install and they got same message.

has anyone else come across this.  welcome advise and any insights.

Thanks

Ross

Hi @Ross611,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've encountered a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet 8600 series printer. Here are some steps to troubleshoot this problem.

  • Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the replacement cartridges are compatible with your specific HP OfficeJet 8600 model. Sometimes, using cartridges not intended for your exact model can cause issues.
  • Clean Contacts: The issue might be due to dirty contacts. Remove the yellow cartridge and gently clean the copper contacts on both the cartridge and the printer using a lint-free cloth and a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Let them dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a reset of the printer to clear any errors. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve issues related to cartridge recognition.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Remove all cartridges and reinstall them carefully. Ensure they click into place properly and are not inserted at an angle.
  • Inspect the Carriage: Check the cartridge carriage for any obstructions or debris that might be affecting the cartridge installation.
  • Try a Different Yellow Cartridge: Since you’ve tried a spare cartridge, ensure that it’s a new and genuine HP cartridge. Replacing with a third new cartridge might help if the others were defective.

These steps should help you narrow down the cause of the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
