Hi @Divotman

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To release the printhead on your HP Officejet 6600, follow these steps:

Steps to Release the Printhead:

Power off the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for safety.

Open the Printer Access Door:

  • Open the front door of the printer, where the cartridges are installed. This should give you access to the printhead area.

Remove the Ink Cartridges:

  • Gently press on each ink cartridge to release it from the printhead. Remove the cartridges carefully, and set them aside in a safe place (preferably on a clean surface to avoid ink stains).

Unlock the Printhead:

  • Look for a small latch or release lever near the printhead. You might need to gently press or pull this latch to unlock the printhead. It can vary slightly depending on the model, but there should be a noticeable release mechanism.
  • Once you’ve unlocked it, gently lift the printhead out of its slot.

Remove the Printhead:

  • Once the printhead is unlocked, you can carefully lift it out of its place. Be sure to handle it gently, as the printhead is delicate.

Cleaning or Replacing the Printhead:

  • If you are cleaning the printhead, use a soft lint-free cloth dampened with water to clean the printhead contacts.
  • If you are replacing the printhead, carefully insert the new printhead into the slot and press down until it clicks into place.

Reassembling the Printer:

Reinsert the Ink Cartridges:

  • Place the ink cartridges back into the printhead slots. They should click into place.

Close the Printer Access Door:

  • Once everything is back in place, close the front access door.

Power on the Printer:

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.
