How do you get help with a defective ink cartridge?

I bought a replacement 910 black ink cartridge from WalMart. It has never worked. They would not let me return because box was opened. I bought another and it works fine. I hate to be out my money since there is obviously a defect. But how to you talk to a person? or send an email? I have never had so much trouble asking for help from a company.
