My printer has developed a problem. I am trying to print some multi page documents and the printer only prints a couple of pages correctly and then just lines and blocks of black. I have tried printing different documents but get the same results.  Any suggestions please as to how to correct the problem. I have already tried new paper in case that was the issue.

thank you

Hi @Jayne8345,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your printer. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check Ink or Toner Cartridges: If your printer is producing streaks or blocks of black, it could be an issue with the ink or toner cartridge. Make sure they are not empty or clogged. If you're using an inkjet printer, you might try cleaning the print head. For laser printers, check that the toner is not clumpy or nearing its end.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause printing issues. Visit the manufacturer’s website, download the latest drivers for your printer model, and install them. If the latest drivers are already installed, try reinstalling them.

Check the Printer's Memory: If you're printing large documents, the printer's memory might be overloaded. Try printing the document in smaller segments to see if that resolves the issue. If your printer has the option, increasing its memory might help.

Print a Test Page or Diagnostic Report: Most printers have a function to print a test page or diagnostic report. This can help you determine if the issue is with the printer itself or something specific to the documents you're trying to print.

Examine the Printer Settings: Make sure the printer settings are correct for the paper type and print quality you are using. Sometimes, incorrect paper type settings can cause printing issues.

Printer Maintenance: Refer to your printer's manual for maintenance procedures like aligning the print heads or cleaning the rollers. These routine checks can sometimes clear up issues.

Inspect the Paper Path: Check for any stuck paper or debris inside the printer. Even small pieces of paper or dust can cause errors in printing.

Try a Different Program or File Type: Sometimes, the issue could be related to a specific program or file format. Try printing from a different program or converting the document to a different file type (e.g., PDF to Word).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
