It seems my cyan inkwell will not accept refill ink. I've made sure I have the correct ink bottle and it is seated properly. Squeezing the bottle lightly only leaks ink out of the bottle and into the printer body.  How do I purge the air from the ink well?  I cannot perform the head cleaning procedure because there is not enough ink in the tank.  Please help with step by step instructions and what tools will I need?

Thank you.

@Kimberly11725, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding How to Purge Air from HP 7301 Cyan Ink Well!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To purge air from the cyan ink well and ensure proper refilling and operation, follow these steps. Ensure you have the necessary tools and follow the instructions carefully to avoid damaging the printer.

Tools Needed:

  • Syringe (without needle)
  • Gloves
  • Clean cloth
  • Properly seated ink bottles

Steps to Purge Air from Ink Well:

Prepare the Tools and Area:

  • Put on gloves to protect your hands from ink spills.
  • Have the syringe and a clean cloth ready for use.
  • Make sure the area around the printer is clean and free from anything that can be stained by ink.

Open the Ink Tank Access Door:

  • Open the front door of your HP 7301 printer to access the ink tanks.
  • Remove the cap of the cyan ink tank.

Check the Compatibility and Sealing of the Ink Bottle:

  • Ensure the ink bottle you are using is compatible with HP 7301.
  • Confirm that it is properly seated on the tank and that there are no obstructions or leaks around the seal.

Purge Air Using a Syringe:

  • Use the syringe to manually remove any air bubbles that might be present in the ink flow system. To do this:
    1. Insert the tip of the syringe into the cyan ink well carefully.
    2. Gently pull the plunger to draw any air bubbles into the syringe.
    3. Continue to draw and release the plunger if necessary until you see ink being drawn into the syringe, indicating that air has been purged from the system.

Refill the Ink Tank:

  • Once air has been purged, place the ink bottle back in its position.
  • Allow the ink to drain slowly into the tank without squeezing the bottle. Make sure there is no air getting back into the system.

Close the Ink Tank and Access Door:

  • After refilling, close the cap of the cyan ink tank securely.
  • Close the front door of the printer.

Perform a Test Print:

  • power on the printer and perform a test print to ensure that the ink is flowing correctly and that there are no further issues.
  • If not immediately resolved, run the printhead cleaning procedure once your printer recognizes sufficient ink levels

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
