For a while my non-hp cartridges worked and now they suddenly won't and they're still 1/2 full. Tried every "fix" and work around I could find and I am still getting the error message. Anyone know of a workaround other than returning this printer to Costco and never buying another HP? (I am not enrolled in Instant Ink and refuse to do so)

From your description, perhaps the firmware has updated --
It's my understanding that when required by the firmware, there is no bypass to allow the use of off-brand ink.
The printer can use ink cartridges that include an HP chip embedded in the cartridge.
Ask your ink supplier if they support the kind of ink the printer needs.
Return to Costco? -- Check Costco's return policy.
