Certain documents are being printed far too high on the page, others work fine
Printer settings I’ve used :
print entire image (scale 97%) - without this it completely cuts off the top of the image. With this setting it’s actually on the page, but right at the top and everything else is shifted upwards.
Scale to fit photo size (A4)
unticked auto rotate
i have no idea how to fix this
ive also reset and ran an alignment

Hi @Hev1224, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like a margin or scaling issue, possibly caused by the print settings or the document itself. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix it:
Check the Print Preview
Before printing, check the Print Preview to see if the document is positioned correctly. If it's already shifted up there, the issue may be in the document itself rather than the printer settings.
Adjust Paper Size & Margins
- Ensure the paper size in the printer settings matches the actual paper loaded (A4).
- If possible, manually increase the margins in the document to see if it aligns correctly.
- Try setting Custom Margins instead of using the auto options.
Disable "Fit to Page" & Manually Set Scaling
- Instead of "Scale to Fit Photo Size," try setting the scale manually (e.g., 95%-100%) and see how it prints.
- If your document has a margin setting, ensure it's set to default or normal instead of "No Margins."
Test with Another Document
Try printing a different document (e.g., a PDF with text) to check if the issue happens with all prints or just specific files.
Update/Reinstall Printer Drivers
If you haven’t already:
- Uninstall the printer from your computer.
- Download and install the latest drivers from the HP website.
- Try printing again.
Try a Different Software/Application
- If you're printing from a browser, try saving the file as a PDF and opening it in Adobe Acrobat before printing.
- If printing from Microsoft Word, try adjusting the layout settings under "Page Setup."
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
