So I bought this hp inkjet printer 6975 when I went to print something it said one or more ink cartridge was damaged. So I took them out and seen there was ink on the bottom of the printer. The ink isent every where and I cleaned as much of it as I could. It turns on fine connects to the Internet my questionare these
1. Would it be worth buying new ink to see if it still works
2 say the printer was not used for along time turned on for a very long time would the ink run out because that looks like what happens
3. The ink that's in ther is not on any impotent parts so if it just drys up will every thing be ok and ? Might I get a few years out of it with minimal use ?

Hi @Lance1981,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
Let's address your questions and concerns regarding your HP Inkjet Printer 6975.
1. Would it be worth buying new ink to see if it still works?
Yes, it might be worth purchasing new ink cartridges to see if the printer still works. If the printer turns on, connects to the internet, and seems to be functioning normally aside from the ink issue, replacing the cartridges might resolve the problem. However, keep in mind that if there is a deeper issue with the printer (like a problem with the printhead or internal components due to the ink leakage), new cartridges may not solve the problem entirely.
2. If the printer was not used for a long time and turned on after a very long time, would the ink run out?
Yes, if a printer is not used for a long time, the ink can dry out and cause blockages in the printhead. Additionally, ink can settle or leak if cartridges are old or not stored properly. If the ink cartridges were in the printer for a long period without use, the ink might have dried out or caused the leakage you observed.
3. If the ink that's in there is not on any important parts, will everything be okay if it just dries up?
If the ink is not on any important parts and you have cleaned up as much as possible, it may be okay to let the remaining ink dry. However, be aware of the following:
- Printhead and Cartridge Contacts: Ensure that the printhead and cartridge contacts are clean and free of dried ink. Dried ink on these parts can cause printing issues.
- Internal Components: If ink has leaked onto internal components (like the paper feed mechanism or electronic parts), it could cause problems over time.
- Future Leaks: Monitor the printer closely for any signs of future ink leaks, as this might indicate a recurring issue.
Kindly check the next steps in the next post.

Hi @Lance1981,
Steps to Take:
Clean Thoroughly:
- Ensure that all visible ink is cleaned up as thoroughly as possible.
- Use a slightly damp, lint-free cloth to clean around the printhead and cartridge contacts.
Replace Ink Cartridges:
- Purchase new, compatible ink cartridges for your HP 6975 printer.
- Install the new cartridges following the printer's manual instructions.
Perform a Printhead Cleaning:
- After installing new cartridges, run the printhead cleaning utility from the printer's menu or software to ensure that the printhead is not clogged.
Test Print:
- Print a test page to see if the printer functions correctly with the new cartridges.
Monitor for Issues:
- Keep an eye on the printer for any further leaks or issues. If the printer continues to have problems, it might need professional servicing.
Update the firmware and drivers. Click here
While it can be worth trying new ink cartridges to see if the printer still works, be cautious and monitor the printer for any ongoing issues. If the printer continues to have problems, it may require more in-depth cleaning or repair.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
