Hi @Reftig,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer is still indicating that the black and yellow cartridges need to be replaced after you've already replaced them, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Verify Cartridge Installation
Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the black and yellow ink cartridges are properly installed in their respective slots. Sometimes, cartridges may not click into place correctly, causing the printer to not recognize them.
Remove and Reinstall: Take out the cartridges, inspect them for any packaging material or protective tapes that might have been left on, and reinstall them securely.
2. Restart the Printer
- Power Cycle: Turn off your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer, and wait for about 60 seconds. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
3. Check Cartridge Status
- Printer Display: Use the printer's control panel to check the ink cartridge status. Navigate through the printer menu to see if the printer now recognizes the newly installed cartridges correctly.
4. Clean Cartridge Contacts
- Clean Contacts: Sometimes, ink residue or dust can accumulate on the cartridge contacts, preventing proper communication with the printer. Gently clean the contacts of the black and yellow cartridges with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water.
5. Update Printer Firmware
- Firmware Update: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve cartridge recognition issues and improve printer performance. Check HP's support website for firmware updates specific to your printer model.
6. Perform Printer Reset
- Reset Printer: Perform a semi-full reset on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer. This can sometimes clear out any temporary issues with cartridge recognition.
- Turn on the printer.
- With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
