I purchased a four pack of HP 902 ink cartridges from wal-mart, after loading the new cartridges I got error messages stating that two of the cartridges were counterfeit/recycled and the cyan cartridge is empty. How does HP sell cartridges as new and filled with ink?

@Mickzig, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with these issues, especially after purchasing new cartridges. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Verify the Cartridges: Ensure that the cartridges are genuine HP products. You can check this using the HP Anti-Counterfeit and Fraud (ACF) Program.
HP anti-counterfeit | HP® Official Site

Reinstall the Cartridges: Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges to make sure they are seated correctly. Sometimes, a simple reinstallation can resolve recognition issues.

Update Printer Firmware: Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. HP often releases updates that can fix compatibility issues with ink cartridges.

Clean the Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer. This can help improve the connection.

Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear error messages.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
