Hi @elsie1942,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble installing new cartridges in your HP 2540 inkjet printer, here are some steps you can follow:
1. Turn on the Printer
- Make sure the printer is powered on and in a ready state.
2. Open the Cartridge Access Door
- Open the front access door to the ink cartridges. This should move the print carriage to the center for easy access.
3. Remove Old Cartridges
- If there are old cartridges still in the printer, gently press down on each cartridge to release it, then pull it out.
4. Check New Cartridges
- Inspect for Damage: Ensure the new cartridges are not damaged.
- Remove Protective Tape: Make sure any protective tape or seals on the new cartridges are completely removed.
5. Insert New Cartridges
- Align the Cartridges: Insert the new cartridges into the correct slots (usually color on the left and black on the right).
- Push Down Firmly: Push the cartridges until they click into place.
6. Close the Access Door
- Once the cartridges are installed, close the cartridge access door. The printer should recognize the new cartridges.
7. Check for Errors
- If you receive an error message, double-check that the cartridges are installed correctly and that there are no obstructions in the carriage area.
8. Perform a Printer Reset
- If the printer does not recognize the cartridges, turn off the printer, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on again.
9. Check Compatibility
- Ensure the cartridges you purchased are compatible with the HP 2540 model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
